INTRODUCTION
The Schenectady Racquet & Fitness Club, with Bill MacArthur as
director, is offering a comprehensive Summer Tennis Program for ages
8 to 18. Instruction
will be offered for all levels of play, beginner through advance
Tournament player.
Bill MacArthur has been director of the Grand Slam Junior camp for the
past 17 years. He is a
USPTR Certified Professional and an ETA ranked player in the
/men’s 45’s Division. He
also coaches the Shenedahowa Boy’s and Girl’s Varsity Teams.
EQUIPMENT
REQUIRED
Children should dress comfortably: sneakers, shorts, t-shirts.
Parents should also provide a small snack as well as lunch.
The camp will order pizza on Wednesdays and subs on Fridays
that can be purchased for an additional fee.
Racquets and tennis balls are provided.
No running or basketball shoes!

Fee includes: Tuition,

PLAYER LEVEL DESCRIPTIONS
Beginner
– Players with little or no experience on the court and who cannot
reliably get their serve in the service box, or maintain a
three-stroke rally.
Intermediate – Players with some experience, such as lower level Junior Team
Tennis, nominal or no competitive experience.
This is someone who can play a tennis match with someone of
their own ability.
Advanced – Players who have played level one and level two USTA tournaments
and higher level Junior Team Tennis, and wish to improve their
competitive advantage.

FEATURES
DAILY CLINICS
Available for current Campers only. Students who participate in 1 or more weeks during the 2004
summer season will be eligible for our $35 per day afternoon play
and clinic special. Campers will take part in a private group lesson
from 1:30-2:30 and then continue match play in the afternoon until 4 pm.
WEEK LONG TOURNAMENTS
Each Monday
afternoon will kick off a girl’s and boy’s 16’s and 12’s
single elimination tournament, run like a USTA sanctioned event.
Prizes will be awarded to the winning players.
WEDNESDAY ROUND ROBINS
Every Wednesday
the camp will run a round robin tournament with as many as three
different levels. This
event will be open to others outside the camp, space permitting.
This is a great opportunity for your child to invite their
friends to come and see the camp for a nominal fee.
Prizes for the winners.
CIRCUIT TRAINING
Circuit
Training is a popular and successful approach to tennis
instructional programs that is used at the most successful academies
around the country.
Students
rotate several stations, each focusing on a different stroke or
strategy concept. This
allows students to learn and review each stroke every day and get
the benefit of a variety of our experienced staff.
