Every time I go to a section of Albany where the building are unoccupied I think of Susan. I think of her when I walk my dog. I have prayed for her and wished I was a police officer instead of a 60 year old woman. You know Bill, I agree. This case brings back all I ever learned in BOCES about Criminal Justice. That saying you posted does have a lot of truth to it. I feel upset everytime that crime dosen't get punished. But all too often, that is the case. My mother called me when Suzy dissapeared. I am from the Albany area and was away at Suny Plattsburgh when Suzy vanished. I was in my first year like Suzy was.My mother wondered if I knew her and I said no. I have been following the story ever since. Why didnt the name tag get fingerprinted even though the police thought 'it wasnt relevant, because it was old'? Why dont the police play the video tape on tv? im sure the picture looks nothing like the video. What about the 'stalker'? She was emailed by him. This is info YOU CAN NOT ERASE. From what I read, there were unrequited feelings for someone that lasted for several years. Maybe through college. And that person wasn't honorable. I met Suzy 8 or 9 years ago when she came out to visit her cousin. It's rare to meet someone who can laugh like that. Dear God-I come before you to specifically ask that you set in motion a chain of events that will lead to the capture of Suzanne Lyall's abductor. You know best as to how this should occur, but since I believe in you , this makes us a team. Since we are a team I will offer you a few suggestions. (1)Convince a member of the perpetrator's family that it would be in the best interest of all concerned that they turn their relative in ASAP. As a student at Saint Rose in Albany over the past four years, I have always kept my eyes and ears open for anything that may lead to Suzanne. And now as a member of the media, I hope it serves as some comfort to the family to know that I always keep Suzanne in mind when I look at a photograph, I am always looking in the background, no matter if it's in Florida or California and I always try to look deeper into a story to find anything that may be related to her disappearance. I have not gotting to see the picture os the child that is missing but I know how she must feel .. for when my daughter was only 3 months old she was almost taking from me when I so kindly gave my ok for a lady to hold my child I also had my 1 year old with me .. the lady ask if she could just walk down the hall of walmart an show my baby to friends I look up an saw that the ladies that she was talking about work for walmart so I said sure .. About 3 min are 5 I happen to look up an the ladies where standing there talking but the lady that took my 3 month old little girl was not no where to be seen .. I grab my 1 year old an ran an ask if they seen the lady holding a baby wrap in a pink blanket they said sure she went around the corner a few min ago I said u know this lady that has my baby they both said No we thought she was with u.. I took off running as fast as I could looking down every hall but I never seen the lady .. I ran to the service desk an yelled please shut down she said what .. someone has my baby please shut down about that time the manger came an called a shut down right away all doors where lock the sreach was on for my baby the lady was found just as she was about to walk out the door with my baby .. I took her away from the lady crying the lady said I wasn't going anyway .. so happen the lady was known to have a disorder I didn't press changes against her geuss I should have but she told me about loseing her baby from crib dealth .. but I learn my lesson to never had my baby over to a stranger to hold for not even a half a min .. I know u will find ur child for God is watching over the angels ..

Bill, this is great!!! Finally some justice for older people in danger! And I wish I were the judge assigned to hear some of these cases involving these kinds of sleaze. Back in High School I had the nickname of "The Hanging Justice". How I got that moniker was I had a reputation for in these kinds of causes for wanting to stiff these people with the highest sentences on the book. And for crimes involving matters like this case, I would recommend the death penalty, preferrably by hanging, for kidnapping that results in murder. I want you to email me sometme. Later. Congress OKs Clearinghouse for Missing Adults Establishes Database for Older Teens, Grown-ups Oct. 27, 2000 WASHINGTON (AP) -- People who need help finding missing adults and older teenagers would have somewhere to turn under a bill passed by Congress. The legislation, approved by the Senate by voice vote on Thursday, authorizes the creation of a national clearinghouse for missing adults, similar to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. It also sets up a national database for tracking missing adults who are in danger because of their age or diminished mental capacity or when foul play is suspected. The House passed the measure last week. It now goes to President Clinton for his signature. 18-year-old disappeared The bill was introduced after 18-year-old Kristen Modafferi of Charlotte, N.C., disappeared in San Francisco in 1997. "When her panicked parents called the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, they heard the unbelievable words 'I am sorry, we cannot help you,'" said Rep. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., sponsor of the bill. "They were shocked to discover that because Kristen was 18, the center could not place her picture and story into its national database, or offer any assistance whatsoever." Kristen's 18th birthday was only three weeks before she disappeared, said Rep. Nicholas Lampson, D-Texas, chairman and founder of the Congressional Caucus for Missing and Exploited Children. "A congressionally authorized clearinghouse for missing adults is necessary to assist people like Kristen's parents," he said. "I do not want to look into the faces of any more parents whose grown-up children are missing or some place where they should not be. The tragedy is too difficult to live with." The bill also directs the attorney general to issue grants to public agencies or nonprofit private organizations so they can assist in locating the missing grown-ups.

my daughter met your daughter in 4 H, when. when my daughter jenn was in early H.S. when jenn turned 18, she thought that she was so grown up,she would disappear for 2-3 days on end.i didn"t know all her friends last names or their phone numbers. i only asked her to check in and let me know that she was alright. so little to ask and such a big deal for her.i remember saying to her,what if someone abducts you and i won't know where to start or what to tell the police.i reminded her about suzy and that bad stuff does happen to good people.eventually jenn did mature alittle, i know where she is now and we keep in touch. i don't know where you find the strenghth.guess we get it from somewhere when we really need it.i wish there was someway i could help you. seems to me that people just can't disappear off the face of the earth. somebody somewhere knows something.are there truly evil people out there without a conscience? i can't imagine. i would prefer to beleive in humanity.there's good in everyone.the hardest part is never knowing what happened,and there is always hope as long as someone doesn"t prove to you that there isn't.i think you are very strong people and pray for your peace of mind. god bless.

Doug & Mary, Steve & Sandy - I am sorry that I have not entered anything in this guestbook for a while, and I am sorry that I have not updated my website for Suzy in so long. My devotion for her recovery has never faultered; Ryan & I will always support you all and do our best to keep Suzy's case alive. We continue to send along petitions for her case - and continue to educate people as to its cause. I have had people tell me - "I am not going to sign that! SUNYAlbany is a great school and I don't want to see them get in trouble!" We must continue to educate people - this law is meant to protect everyone - and it needs to be passed. To Spyin' Eyes: For the record, I am a licensed security guard in this state, and I am 18. A part of our profession's Code of Ethics is to prevent, deter and report crime. Hence those facts, do you think that if I knew something about this case, don't you think I would have already spilled it to the authorities, like the NY State Troopers by now? I happen to have and older sister who is only a couple of months older than Suzanne, and because of this matter I get extremely nervous when my sister goes anywhere by herself. And it's because of stuff like this that I want to join up with the State Troopers in a couple of years from now. I have followed this since the first day of when this happened. And the reason I said what I said is because that is what the evidence suggests to me. The odds of find Miss Lyall at all seems to diminish day by day. Maybe I am wrong, maybe I'm way off base, but those are my tentative conclusions as to date. And I believe that I can legally say my views without fear of reprisal from people like you, if you care to read the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. To Spyin' Eyes: I start college next fall in 2001, and I have to say that this whole mess is got a lot more fresh in my mind as I think more about it as a result. I believe that in the end that whatever happened to Suzanne, it'll be the Lord to sort it out. As a Bible verse says, Vengence is mine says the Lord. I forget what passage it was. But if this was a kidnapping, I doubt that Suzanne is still alive and the amount of time that has passed makes me nearly 99.96% sure of that. If she is still alive, and I hate to say this, but for some reason unknown to anyone other than herself maybe she has went away and dosen't want to be found. Dear Suzanne's parents, I am so sorry about your daughter being a victim of abduction. Not knowing anything must be the hardest thing a parent could go through. My daughter Cheryl was new at CENTEREACH HIGH SCHOOL a senior gave her heroin. Cheryl overdosed and has to live in a nursing home now. I am really sorry to hear about your daughter. Why do bad things have to happen to good people, I do not know. It has to be really hard for you to get through each day, but the one important thing you can do is to remember the memories, certain things about her that made you love her so much. Covet the poems and the pictures. They could never replace the joy of having her there, but at least you still have that little piece of her left to cling to. Keep your head up high, live each day the best that you possibly can. Go on for her because that is what she would want you to do because you are her parents, people for whom she will always love, whether she be here or an angel watching over you in heaven. I read an article about Suzy in Mademoselle magazine and was totally taken by it. I want to let you know that I feel deeply for your family. I have a younger sister and a brother who I love very much and wouldn't know what to do with myself if something like this happened. My sister currently attends SUNY Cortland. I fear for her being there. There are no patrols or great security there. It is scary at night. Not enough lights, or speaker help phones. Back in 1992 I started going to Ballston Spa high ans Suzanne was one of the nicest people there. I would just like to say that I, as well as many others have heard the story about your daughter yet it didn't quite hit home until I just read an article in the July issue of Mademoiselle which entails a small story about her. It was not until then that I truly realized that I am at risk as well. I would also like to add that I am a student at the University at Albany and in the article I just read, it doesn't surprise me in the least how miniscule the school officials made it out to be. The supposed emergency phones and walking security have not yet improved. There are numerous "emergency phones" that I have walked by, out of curiousity, picking up and finding that they always seem to be out of order. There is sooo much that I'd like to do to try and help make things safer for young women like your daughter and myself but I am clueless as to where to start. Hi, I got this web site from todays newspaper. There was an article in there about "Official State Web sites to feature early alerts about missing persons." This type of thing caught my eye because I have been involved in an organization called"Equal Rights for Fathers of NYS Inc." for about 22 yrs. I have a 24 year old daughter who I brought up myself, and when I read things like this my stomach turns. We used to feature any recent missing person bullitins at our meetings for the public to look at. I haven't had any recently. I used to receive them from "Missing and exploited children" office, or get them off of milk cartons, etc. Now with this site available, I think I will start displaying them again. My heart goes out to you and your family. My daughter is like a part of my existance, a part of my soul, I can't even imagine! I went to High School with Suzy for 4 years. I did not know her very well but I remember her smile. She was always so nice to everyone. It hurts to know that she has been taken from her family. My hopes and prayers are with the family. I think of Suzy and her family everyday.

I was attending SUNY Albany when this tragedy took place, and I must say that I have never seen a community pull together as much as it did, and dedicate itself so much to helping a family find a way to stop their grief. To Bill in VA and to all of you: You're right, it's time that I do reveal my true identity. My real name is displayed above. I have nothing to hide, but the reason that I hid who I truly am was for reasons of personal safety. If kidnappers are reading this, the last thing I needed was for someone to come after me and try to have me knocked off before I get to do anything in life. I recently read the NY Times article 03/26/00 and was struck by the referrence to the University Police not contacting the NYS Police sooner. I think you may be interested in Bill A10016 introduced by J. Dinga. This bill does address the problem with the structure of the University Police system. The article made mention of California, if you check this bill out you should also look into California's University Police. I think you will find that they are a division of the California State Police. This change just may help prevent the time lapse that is crucial in investigating cases such as Suzanne's. It's people like yourself that can make the politicians listen.

To Nancy and Robert:Yes, I can agree that some cases have been solved after long periods of time. Bu those are few and far between. I am not clear as to the law on kidnapping cases, but I am pretty sure that after some time, cases like this do get put aside. It may be that this is not a case of kidnapping at all. Nancy, I agree with you on the case issue. Law Enforcement over the past 2 year's have not gave up hope on this case, but unfortunately it is taking them a while to solve this case. The trail is cold, and everyone is looking for the ending to this tragic story. Ronin, this is a true story, and to Nancy..one day..this sad event will come to an ending, and this crime that occured will have a good one at that, (ending), but..we have yet to see anything come about. Ronin, you shouldn't ever think a case is a lost cause. If you do go into law enforcement, you will learn that cases have been solved after many decades. That cases may become 'cold,' but it's amazing how truth finds its way to the surface. Patricia Cornwell, whose fictional medical examiner, Kay Scarpetta, noted in one of her books that the human body has an uncanny way of revealing itself, that one can try to hide a crime, but eventually, what is hidden will be seen. Suzanne is out there, somewhere, and some day, she'll be found. I wish it would be sooner than later, so the Lyalls could have some closure and peace of mind. But rest assured, some day she will be found, and the person (or persons) responsible will be brought to justice.

Amanda-The person/perp who took only $20 from Suzy's account was probably testing the account to see if it actually worked so he could use it later. Also many convience stores have free-standing ATM machines without cameras, although this may be changing since we continue to improve technology. We have a case here in DC where two scums were robbing a home when a young woman came home from the grocery store. They killed her and used her ATM card at a local Giant food store. Fortunately they caught one of these scums on tape.
